Only a month has passed from WordCamp San Francisco, and last week we found ourselves in another WordCamp convention, this time in the holy city of Jerusalem.
Our CEO Gal Brill presented UppSite to the WordCamp participants and together with everyone present, they created a mobile native application for the convention’s website in real time, just in a matter of minutes.
WordCamp Jerusalem is a much smaller convention than the one in San Francisco but is not less important. Israel is one of the leading countries in the High Tech industry world wide, and the WordPress community in Israel blossoms.
Highlights and Takeaways
WordCamp Jerusalem was a very informative convention and many interesting lectures, by very skilled lecturers, were presented there. Here are two of them:
How can you turn your own personal blog into a profitable web magazine that makes a real profit?
Gal Mor, an Israeli blogger and former journalist, claimed that people find it less appealing to use big portal sites on this day and age, and that they prefer to read smaller, niche content website instead. Mor also explained how Facebook and Twitter changed the way people receive content and that his site gets more visitors from his Facebook page that it does from Google. He explained that in order to get Facebook fans to click on the links you publish, you need to create intriguing headlines and create a discussion, otherwise people won’t click on your posts.
What are the legal aspects for web programming and contracts, especially surrounding open-sourced code such as WordPress?
In his lecture, Att. Jonathan Klinger reviewed all the difficulties web programmers can find while working with difficult customers. The lecture explained how important it is to have a very explicit contract between the web programmer and the customer. Klinger gave examples and advices about what to put in the contract.
WordCamp Jerusalem had many more various lectures about how to improve the code for WordPress sites and about SEO and Social Networking.
